Media Summer

In fairness, my summer didn't consist of many mediums. However there were a few moments that happened during the summer, that without different media institutions and inventions, wouldn't of been the same. There was a couple events that took place in Southgate, located in the North London borough Enfiled. Recent events that have occurred in the capital have highlighted certain areas as places to avoid, with large parts of Southgate being one of those. Many different online news articles provided us with different information, each with a different interpretation of the area. Some spoke of the dangers, others spoke of the change and over-exaggeration of the problem. Overall the whole experience taught me that different form of media, whether that's social media or online news, they each have there own interpretation, showing how easy is it is cast your opinion on something using media. The uses and gratifications theory assumes audiences actively seek out media tho satisfy individual needs. The uses and gratifications theory looks to answer three questions 1. What do people do with the media? 2. What are their underlying motives for using the media? 3. What are the pros and cons of this individual media use? The different areas of uses and gratification are: information personal identity  integration and social interaction entertainment education escapism Information Seeking advice on practical matters or opinion and decision choices. Satisfying curiosity and general interest. Learning; self-education.  Gaining a sense of security through knowledge.
